When Mark’s journey to recovery and fitness began again he set a goal to be able to walk a marathon once more. On May 1st 2021 Mark will attempt to complete this task. A pig roast follows the ride. We start and end at Bogarts Place in Apple Valley. Ben Kopp was a Rosemount\, MN native who died of wounds received during his third deployment as a US Army Ranger. The BKMR uses Ben’s name to raise awareness and educate the public about the sacrifices our fallen and our veterans have made in the name of Freedom. This is a celebration of honor for those men and women.\n\n\n \nBen deployed twice to Iraq before going to Afghanistan in May of 2009. On July 10th\, during a firefight with the Taliban\, he saved six of his fellow Rangers before being shot in the leg. His leg was surgically repaired\, but the injury caused trauma his body wasn’t able to recover from. He died on July 18th at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington\, DC.\n\n\nPrior to his death Ben had written in a living will that he wished to be an organ donor.  His heart still beats in Judy Miekle of Winnetka\, Illinois. His liver and kidneys went to a gentleman in the Washington DC area. In addition to the major organs\, he also donated bones\, skin and tissue. It is estimated that Ben’s gifts of organ donation saved or enhanced the lives of 60 people.\n\nSeveral of his Ranger and civilian friends have had the privilege of putting their hand on Judy’s heart to feel Ben marching on.\n\nIn life and in death\, Corporal Benjamin S. Since then\, he has completed several 100 mile rides and most recently climbed both Pikes Peak and Mount Evans in Colorado. \nBobby’s passion for cycling has brought him to a point where he would like to continue to grow as a cyclist and in addition\, help those in need. The Ruck is 20 miles to represent the number of Veterans reported by the VA who complete suicide every day. Last year\, more than 1000 Veterans\, active duty service members and civilians came together at the event to raise awareness and honor the lives and service of those who we have lost to this epidemic.\n \nMany of the participants are civilians\, active\, non-active\, and Veteran military personnel\, however\, all are encouraged to participate or attend to show their support.  Though it’s not a requirement\, many of the participants will be carrying a rucksack or backpack that weighs 20 lbs. in remembrance of the 20 Veterans that complete suicide each and every day.\n \nMoney raised will assist us to help those who are suffering from mental illness and are considering such a tragic fate.  Every Veteran deserves our help in overcoming such obstacles after serving our country and fighting for our freedoms.  4th H.O.O.A.H. WI will never turn a fellow service member\, a Veteran of the U.S. Military away\, but we need help and support to fulfill this promise.
