From the front lines, Jason Duprat, reports the enormity of the military medical response to Covid-19.
During some of his 7 years in the Navy, Duprat was assigned to the 4th Medical Battalion in the Marine Corps Reserve Forward Resuscitative Surgical Team. He currently serves in the Operational Health Support Unit JAX.
Last week, Duprat, a member of the Navy Reserve Medical team, went from notification to boots on the ground in under 30 hours.
Duprat shares, “The enormity of this military medical response is completely unprecedented. Never before have these numbers of military medical personnel been mobilized in such a fashion for a CONUS mission.
Massive numbers of military medical from all branches have converged upon NYC to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.
In just weeks, the Javits Center was converted and ramped up, the USS comfort is docked and is filling with patients…an ever increasing number of military healthcare teams are going straight into those hospitals hit the hardest to work shifts right along side the hospital staff.
Hundreds (if not thousands) of volunteers from around the country have assembled to help provide food, water, supplies, mental health care, and PPE. The support that the community of volunteers and donors is showing for the police, fire, EMS, and other front line workers is truly humbling.”
Duprat’s story is but one of thousands of military personnel across the country, once again, answering the call for help, without question, without personal regard, leaving behind friends and family, to serve a purpose bigger than us all.
